Tony Ventrano

Like many individuals Tony Ventrano became enamored with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu after watching Royce Gracie use jiu jitsu techniques to neutralize and submit much larger opponents. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu proved to Tony that there was a martial art that if learned by a smaller, weaker person could be utilized to defeat a larger, stronger opponent.

Tony states,"The closest BJJ school was well over an hour away so I was not able to formally train at an academy. So, I bought every video, magazine and book that I could get my hands on and would practice from these materials in my neighbors garage."

Fortunately, after Tony moved to California that he started training with Rickson Gracie black belt, Dave Terry and he now was able to pursue his passion in a school and learn from many of his student peers. "I am a huge proponent of compertition as part of your improvement. I competed and won gold in my first three events but have not been able to compete since due to injury."

Adam Toline

Adam began his martial arts training in 2001 with Muay Thai kickboxing. Two years later he commenced learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as one of Fusion Academy's first students.

Adam states,"Before I studied martial arts, I was heavily involved in rock climbing for close to a decade. I climbed all over the country, taking on some fairly serious routes in Yosemite and other locations. Then I started learning Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Eventually, I lost interest in Muay Thai and completely immersed myself in the study of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I can say without reservation that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is every bit as challenging and engrossing as climbing ever was."

Since then, Adam became Fusion Academy's first student ever to be awarded a purple belt by Head Instructor Eddie Edmunds. Adam is noted by many students for his technical, detailed instruction and an unorthodox style.

Noah Jenkins

Noah Jenkins has been involved with martial arts for most of his life. He first studied Ed Parker's American Kenpo Karate in 1988 and eventually obtained the rank of black belt. In 2004 he joined Fusion Academy as a means to balance his striking arsenal with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Submission Wrestling. Noah is a thorough teacher and combines an excellent competition background with practical explanation. He concedes that true mastery of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a combination of personal skill and teaching the art. Noah is currently a doctoral student in Molecular Biology at the University of Utah and has published seminal papers in leading scientific journals.

Jared Manning

Jared Manning grew up in a family of seven children in which grappling matches between siblings often erupted on the living room floor. When he was eight years old his parents signed him and his brothers up for wrestling. Since that time, Jared has competed in over 250 matches. Jared began to coach wrestling eight years ago and has watched several of his students become State Medalists and Utah State Champions.

After watching the devastating effectiveness of submission techniques used in mixed martial arts events, Jared began studying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu three years ago. He loves to train with everyone, from young kids in the class he teaches to the more challenging purple, brown and black belts. Jared has found that jiu-jitsu is as much about problem-solving as is his engineering profession.

Presently, Jared still trains on the living room floor, but this time its with his four kids, wrestling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The tradition continues.
